Animal Welfare Insights is dedicated to advancing animal welfare, quality and food safety through sound policy and strategic programs.
A California native, Jennifer earned her BS Animal Science and DVM (2000) from UC Davis. Dr. Jen worked in a California practice as an associate veterinarian for 4 years specializing in dairy herd health, developing her interests in on-farm education, udder health and animal welfare.
Dr. Jen earned her PhD in Veterinary Preventive Medicine at The Ohio State University (2010) minoring in University Education. Her graduate work was focused on understanding the epidemiology of Staph. aureus mastitis, for which she was a recipient of the NMC’s Scholar award in 2009. In 2018 she earned her Master’s degree in International Animal Welfare, Ethics and Law through the University of Edinburgh.

Experience Makes The Difference
Dr. Jen spent 8 years leading the development of the Dean Foods’ animal welfare program as Director of Dairy Stewardship. In 2018 Dr. Jen joined Danone North America in as Director of Milk Quality, responsible for managing milk quality, and lead the development and management of Danone North America’s industry leading animal welfare and milk quality program, Quality and Care.
In 2019 Dr. Jen’s efforts, passion and results in shaping national best practices in dairy animal welfare were recognized by her alma matter, UC Davis, as one of the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences Award of Distinction recipients.

In 2022 Dr. Jen became the co-founder and Chief Animal Welfare Officer of Kinder Ground, a non-profit dedicated to supporting the farming community to elevate the welfare of animals in food production.
